Title
Junior Mintt
Description
A recorded conversation between drag performer, preacher, and (self described) great, bad bitch Junior Mintt with trans oral historian Ryan Hoover. Nestled in the front parlor of the bar Purgatory, sitting on velvet couches, and sipping margaritas, we talked about Junior Mintt’s life and what led her to Brooklyn, to her queer family, and to be producing THE ONLY black, trans woman-organized drag show: In Living Color. Church, cops, escape rooms, magic, Marsha, futurity. Talking through Junior Mintt’s lived experience, she describes a magical mixture of queerness, spirituality, and black trans liberation as well as instances of state actors (i.e. cops) policing her body, complex relationships with queer media, and the labor/jubilance of creating queer community. Junior Mintt’s favorite person is Junior Mintt; listen to this conversation to not only hear, but to “feel perfection”.
