This interview is with Riley (They/Them), who worked at Ralph’s Ice Cream while studying Creative Writing at Pace University, recorded by Cedar Sklar-Luers (They/Them). In this interview, Riley discusses their childhood growing up as a queer child of a conservative Russian immigrant mother. They describe coming into their queer identity through friendships and queer community, as well as the world of youtube. They also recount their experience working at Ralph’s Ice Cream, a counter service Ice Cream shop in the East Village of Manhattan. They detail the challenges of navigating Nonbinary gender identity and customer service work, as well as the implications of surveillance in the workplace.
